Burundi is a landlocked country at the crossroads of East and Central Africa, bordered by Rwanda to the north, Lake Tanganyika and Democratic Republic of Congo to the west. Thanks to its rich mountain soils and ideal climate, Honduras is one of the world’s top coffee growing countries.
With washed coffees, the cherries are run through a depulping machine where the fleshy part is mechanically removed and only a sticky layer of mucilage remains around the seeds. The coffee seeds (‘beans’) are left to ferment in water tanks where, again thanks to yeasts and bacteria, the mucilage is broken down and fermentation occurs.
Pulped natural or honey processed coffees are somewhere in between naturals and washed coffees. After the harvest, the cherries are sorted and depulped with different degrees of fruit pulp remaining on the seed . But instead of being fermented in water, the depulped seeds are immediately dried in the sun.

Our dry mill is located at Gitega in the central of the country. It is owned to SONICOFF but is actually hired by ETS KANEZA. We are milling coffee from our coffee washing stations and the semi washed bough from up country. In the compounds of the dry mill, we have a laboratory for quality control to assure that the established classification and green coffee standards required to the demands of the regulator and to the international standards.
We own and manage large coffee plantations across Kirundo, Muyinga, and Karusi, ensuring full control over quality from the very beginning.
Our farms go beyond production they create opportunities, support local communities, and contribute to regional growth. We also work closely with farmers across Burundi, collecting high-quality coffee and building strong partnerships.
This video highlights the different stages of our coffee processing, carefully handled to deliver consistency, rich flavour, and excellence in every cup. Looking ahead, ETS KANEZA is expanding by building more coffee stations across Burundi, making it easier for local sellers to access the market and trade their green beans efficiently.
